Outfitted with a mic, the Coloud Colors headphones are designed to be used with a phone. Available in a half-dozen (appalling) colors, the ones I received came in a faded red. Since they seemed made for an unusually small head, I searched the packaging in vain for some hint that these might have been designed for children.
I can only surmise that the Coloud Colors were someone’s idea of a fashion accessory – and a failed one at that. While I haven’t trashed them yet, that’s only because they’re impossible to wear comfortably. Construction is so flimsy that a hard week’s regular use would destroy them. Any self-respecting ‘tween in Silicon Valley wouldn’t fall for these.
If these headphones don’t make the grade for looks or construction, their sound wasn’t bad when compared to other low cost headphones. While nowhere near high-end headphones, either with respect to comfort or sonic quality, the Coloud Color headphones were a step above the airport headphones littering my desk.
The remote is handy; click it once to pause a song, twice to skip a track, and three times to start a song over.
Given Coloud’s low price point I was surprised at how much sound they delivered. The only catch is you have to get beyond the appearance of these things and their cheesy construction.
These red devils retail for $25. For that price it’s not a bad toss around/on-the-go set of headphones – just plan serious listening sessions on something else.
