Fig Tree: Dried figs are delicious, but nothing beats fresh figs. I decided to plant 2 fig trees in two large terracotta pots so that I could grow fresh figs. Still waiting for my first crop, but even the anticipation is fun! I originally had these fig trees on the north facing side of my house. Unfortunately, the summer afternoon sun was scorching the leaves. Move them to the east side of the house has turned them back to happy fig trees. I love the shape of the leaves.
I love citrus trees, but there is only so much you can do with lemons and oranges. To expand the repertoire of edible delights in your garden, here are three of my favorite trees that will surely provide new delicious dimensions to your yard.

Avocado trees: Avocados are another fruit which is delicious as part of guacamole or to add a buttery texture to salads. This season, I planted two in my south side yard which is shaded from the hot afternoon sun by the home. I've got my fingers crossed for avocados this season!
Pomegranate tree or bush. I purchased this one on a whim when I saw it at the nursery. It may take years before I see any pomegranates come off this shrub. Getting a more mature tree or shrub will speed the time to fruit. Do you ever get impatient and go back to the nursery to get a larger version of the plant?
